Exercise, Nutrition, & Weight

Current Situation - Inadequate exercise, poor nutrition, and increased weight are risk factors that are linked to many health problems including cardiovascular disease, diabetes and many types of cancer.  These issues affect individuals throughout Allen Country regardless of gender, age or socioeconomic status.  In Allen County, individuals with incomes less than $25,000 are more likely to be obese.

What is being done in our Community?

 Activate Allen County  - Activated Challenges support businesses, schools childcare centers and neighborhoods with creating environments that make the healthy choice the easy choice. More information is available at www.activateallencounty.com.   

Creating Healthy Communities (CHC) - Through a grant from the Ohio Department of Health, the Allen County Health Department’s CHC program works to improve physical activity and nutrition in the community.   Activities support MoveSafe Allen County, Enforcement Education, Healthy Commute, and community gardening.  More information is available at allencountypublichealth.org under Health Education.

Allen County Bike and Pedestrian Task Force supports recommended policies and programs outlined in the Active Transportation Plan, developed by the Lima Allen County Regional Planning Commission.

Community partners, including Lima Allen County Neighborhoods in Partnership (LACNIP), are working to increase the number of community gardens, urban farms, and community supported agriculture, and farmers markets.
