What is this Indicator?  This indicator reflects the system safety as calculated as the number of fatalities that occurred per 100 million miles of system wide travel.  ACRTA has experienced no fatalities over several years.
Why this is important?  Safety is the number one driving objective behind everyday transit operations.  The Federal Transit Administration requires ongoing and strenuous safety programs be implemented in all federally funded public transportation agencies.  Policies and procedures are developed, adopted, and implemented.  Driver training programs and safety meetings are regularly dedicated to discussions of crashes by type and how to avoid such incidents.  Safety performance is audited at the agency and driver level; crash frequency and severity are considered normal measures of transit safety.
Technical Note:  Values are reported by the Transit Authority annually.  Goals are set by the Ohio Department of Transportation.
