| What is this
Indicator? This indicator shows the average weekday
daily vehicle miles traveled (VMT). |
| Why this is
important? Vehicle miles traveled (VMT) indicates
the demand on county roads and freeways. Areas with higher numbers
of vehicle miles traveled tend to have an increased number of motor
vehicle, bicycle and pedestrian crashes as well as injuries
and fatalities. Increased vehicle miles traveled lead to increased
vehicle emitted pollutants, hence increased air pollution and
greenhouse gas emission which contributes to cardiovascular
mortality rates and respiratory disease. |
| Technical Note:
Miles are reported by ODOT on the "URL of Source" as
"thousands of miles" traveled; this measure has been
converted to "millions of miles" traveled. |
