What is this Indicator?   This indicator describes the means of transportation to work for workers 16 years of age and over depicted as a percent of single occupancy commutes versus carpooling.

Why this is important?  Increasing the number of people willing to carpool to work can have strong implications on a community's infrastructure, emissions, and income.  Fewer cars on the road can have positive community benefits, such as: existing roadway capacity can handle more passenger travel with less congestion, per passenger emissions are lowered, air quality is improved, and leads to the development of a more affordable transportation system.
