What is this Indicator?  This indicator depicts the total number of pedestrian crashes that occurred in the Allen County during the study period 2012 - 2016.   Allen County ranked first among Ohio counties of similar size, experiencing 116 such crashes.  Richland County ranked second experiencing 103 pedestrian crashes and Erie County ranked third with 86 pedestrian crashes.   When a standard crash rate, i.e. "crashes per 100,000 population", is applied, Allen County ranked second with a crash rate of 109.1; while, Erie (111.6) and Scioto (101.9) counties ranked first and third respectively.

Why this is important?   Numbers of pedestrian crashes, as are all crashes, indicators of the safety of county and township roads, city streets, as well as state and interstate highways.   Tracking and examining the crash contributing factors allows planners, engineers, law enforcement, as well as emergency responders to identify problems and work to reduce the incidence of these events. 

Technical Note:   This is the number of crashes that occurred in Allen County during 2012 - 2016 study period compared to the number of crashes occurring in Ohio counties of similar size - 50,000 to 135,000.
